Falling at the Feet of Jesus — John 11:32
The Word: Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw Him, she fell at His feet, saying to Him, ‘Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died’” (John 11:32).
The Breakdown: Throughout the Gospel records Mary is only found three times. Each time, she is seen at the feet of Jesus: she sat at His feet and listened to His teaching (Luke 10:39), she anointed His feet with expensive ointment and wiped them with her hair as an act of worship (John 12:3), and as this verse states, she fell at His feet and poured out her sorrow because her brother died. It may appear like she is complaining, but actually, she is showing her trust in His healing power, just as her sister did (v.21). There is no better place to fall than at His feet!
Activate: Like Mary, you can sit at the feet of Jesus where you can learn from Him, pour out your heart before Him, and give offerings of worship. Are you doing this? Can you be described as one who is always at the feet of Jesus? Mary felt comfortable at the feet of Christ. Do you?
A Thought: As the psalmist says, “Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand” (Psalm 95:6-7). Set some time aside to spend at the feet of Christ!
