Hands That Shed Innocent Blood
The Word: “These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren” (Proverbs 6:16-19).
The Breakdown: God hates the murdering of innocent people, which is why the sixth commandment is that we do not murder (Exodus 20:13). Isaiah 59:7 states that those who shed innocent blood will experience desolation and destruction—they will reap what they sow. God hates this sin because He considers every life to be of infinite value.
Activate: Currently, there is a lot of innocent blood that is being shed in our country. It isn’t just ruthless murders that shed innocent blood, but more specifically, it is the act of abortion. Millions of abortions are performed each year and innocent lives are taken. But God’s Word is clear: God hates when innocent blood is shed. Therefore, we need to hate it too! We need to recognize that such a sin is occurring and stand for God’s truth.
A Thought: Since such a horrible sin is so widely acceptable in our country, we need to reflect God’s disapproval of it. The best way to demonstrate that God disapproves of this sin is to show explain why He hates it, which is because He values every life. You can show people how it is unacceptable by telling them what is acceptable to God.
